National Healthstyles Foundation

by Adam Struve on December 6, 2009

Just wanted to put this information out there since I couldn’t find much while sitting through one of their presentations.   If you’re ever invited to attend a National Healthstyles Foundation presentation, but they don’t tell you what its about, its so they can try to sell you things.  The one I attended they were selling some cookware sets, pots and pans, etc.  The nature of their business is referral services.  What they do is get targeted lists of possible customers from bridal shops mostly.  The bridal shops probably sell them a list of customers that purchased from them in exchange for giving you a discount on a dress or something.  The reason its targeted is because they know that newlyweds often need a pots and pans set.

The whole thing seems legit, but I just know that if people like me knew what it was all about before hand they wouldn’t have attended.  Unless you’re in the market for new pots and pans then don’t go.  They say you’ll get a prize if you go and you do.  You get some free hotel stay in Mexico, but you have to actually pay to fly there yourself.  If you purchase the pots and pans you get like a week long cruise to the Bahamas.  Even with that you still have to mail in some form along with like $14 (for processing) and wait to receive your vouchers and information for the cruise.

I can’t promise my information is accurate, but at least now there is some information out there as to what you can expect.

I actually work for this company. Adam, your information is pretty much accurate, minus a few things. First of all even if you aren’t in the market for cookware, the presentation is still very informative and entertaining. And while we do work with companies such as The Perfect Wedding Guide, the majority of our brides are selected from Bridal Shows that we attend as a vendor and they attend as a bride.

In the presentation you will learn about the foods we eat and the material we cook them out of. You will also learn about saving money by eating out less, and becoming healthier because of that also.
If health and saving money are not things you are interested in, then I suggest you do not attend.

As far as the vacation goes. Yes you do still have to pay taxes and airfare, but you are still saving hundreds of dollars in room cost, food, alcoholic beverages, and entertainment.

We have been doing business for over 15 years and have thousands of happy customers.

If anyone has any questions feel free to visit our website http://www.nationalhealthstyles.com and give me a call on our toll free number. I’m at extension 208.

We are a direct marketing company. Which means we bring the product directly from the manufacturer to the customer. In our type of business we do not get much public exposure so we are used to the skepticism. This is why we make it our goal to service every bride, whether or not they become a customer, to the fullest extent.

Kudos to them for actually finding this blog post and making a comment.

I actually did end up making a large purchase from them and I’m happy with what I got.

I couldn’t help but notice that I was the only one in the audience using the internet on their phone to look into the company during the presentation. My blog post was mostly to put the information out there that I was looking for at the time.

I attended one of these meetings last night and stumbled upon your blog while I was looking for information prior to it starting.

My fiancé and I were not intending to buy anything, but were definitely planning to in the near future. While the cookware is very expensive, it is a once in a lifetime purchase and is very high quality. I can’t wait to receive our order in the mail so we can start eating healthier!

It seems to me that most people who have this stuff love it very much, but if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. Most of the complaints I have seen are people who buy the stuff on credit and then realize they can’t afford it. Once you make the purchase, you are stuck with it. Luckily, we are glad to be stuck with the best set of cookware you can buy, and plan on making more purchases in the future from this company.

Just for anyone else out there looking, the items they are selling are from a company called Carico, and you should be able to find more information by searching for that rather than National Healthstyles Foundation. Hope this helps!

This is sort of a scam. Basically this is a big, less reputable, tupperware party. The presentation that we went to was supposed to be 90 minutes, it was around 2 1/2 hours.

They give you a voucher for “$1000 dollars in gift certificates” It is actually about a thousand dollars worth of coupons. Which you have to pay 10% up front to the company to get. Then they try to say that you will get $300 dollars worth of merchandise gift cards. WRONG – it is another scam. You have to send in money yet again to get discounts on merchandise. It is an online coupon program.

The worst of all is the vacation certificate. It really isn’t worth the time and effort. You pay 10 dollars plus taxes and fees. Thos run about $40-$50 dollars a night per person. If you figure that most Hotels room rates include fees but not taxes. In the mid range, for a $100 dollar room, you save $40 a night (taxes are around $7 to $10 a night so $40 – $10 = $30 dollars of savings per person). Total, for a US stay of 2 nights, of $80 dollars. Now is that really worth 2 peoples time for 2 hours roughly works out to $20 dollars per hour per person. I get paid $29 dollars an hour, salary, at work. That is less than I get paid to work. Also don’t forget the inital outlay of money.

They offer the all inclusive vacations because most, if not all, people that they bring to these seminars are planning their weddings and do not make alot of money. Or they are spending all their money on their wedding. They cannot take advantage of an all inclusive 3day/4night package outside of the country because they have to pay for their weddings and are low on cash. Or they are going for a longer honeymoon than 3 nights and will have to pay for the extra nights on their own. That is also after they sign for $2000.00 to $3000.00 dollars worth of cooking implements, china and stemware at the seminar. They know that very few people are going to put out any money for a program that they are unsure of to get back a “travel voucher” with blackout dates that has to be used one year from issuance.

Not to mention, you have to still pay your airfare and the stated taxes and fees (from where we live to Puerto Vallarta, that is $800 for 2). Taxes and fees for 2 people per night ($50 x 2 x 3 = 300). This “Free Vacation” is going to cost around $1100 dollars for us to take with them, for me to book the same trip to an all inclusive in Puerto Vallarta is $1,282.54 on expedia. Plus I don’t have to worry about my personal information being sold and I can take it whenver I choose. They save you a whopping 182.54 or $30.43 per night per person. They basically paid me my hourly wage to sit through a pots and pans seminar. No thanks.

This is a joke of a program. Like the another person said, if you have to pay money to get prizes you really have won nothing.

Also note that you send the vouchers to a Marketing Company (21 Century Marketing Concepts has the same address as National Health Styles Foundation). They will sell your name, and that money that they make from selling your personal information to other companies nets them more money. Their is no privacy clause listed on the vouchers.

Unless you are in the market for really expensive cookware, avoid going to these seminars. For a set of pans and pots you will pay from $2000 to $3000. The presenter was funny, but they are trying to cash in on young guillable couples and their families.

If you are planning a wedding, you should avoid these expenses. You have won nothing. The reward of at max $20-$30 dollars person and them selling your personal information. Versus coming out with basically money off your vacation and a $2000-$3000 debt, plus them selling your personal information is not worth it.

Somebody else post this on another site about National Healthstyles:

It is a marketing scam. It is not a “prize” if you have to PAY to get to go to their solicitation presentations. After you pay and go, your time is theirs to bombard you with intensive and pushy marketing presentations for you to obtain their services/goods. Many people come out with thousands of dollars worth debt for goods or services that they do not need just because you are trapped with a salesman that is telling that this is the way to “invest” in your household.

Be aware of trickery used on marketing scams that prey on naive couples that erroneously think that they have “won” something.

If you have to pay to go or to get your “gift”, it is not a prize. If it is not free, then you have not won anything, do not be so gullible.

    Good luck

Hey robert I couldnt help but notice that you posted that on another forum word for word are you going around just pasting that everywhere it says national health styles? I went to a preview and I truly enjoyed it my fiance had a great time. I wasnt in the market for any of the items but we still had a blast the cook was pretty funny and th information was valuble none the less. I did recieve my promotion gift package and was happy about that to all in all I think National Health Styles is a great company. Every company have a few customers that are unhappy even walmart- just because someone didnt like walmart or had a so called bad experience are you going to never go there again?

So I got a call a few days ago to go to one of these shows. I intend to go just to see what it is all about. I wrote down a lot of things as they were talking to me over the phone and I agree with Gail. They do tell you there will be fees and taxes that you are supposed to pay yourself for the vacation package. They also say that you are required to get there by yourself.

As to the gift cards and what not, they did say that it was a coupon savings thing and that you would save a certain percent in many online shops, and the grocery savings were similar in that they were not direct savings. You will over the next year, I believe they said, save like $1,000.

I do not feel that they have hidden any information from me, and because of that I intend to see what it is all about. Perhaps I will add another post here after the fact with a different opinion, or not. You can be sure I will look into the true savings however. Robert’s math doesn’t have enough information behind it for me to grasp how he came to his conclusions, so I will do something of my own and post that as well for anyone else who may be unsure.

My fiancee and I just got back from this seminar. As posted above, the seminar is very informative and entertaining. Although we did not feel pressure from the salesman at any time, the information given about the type of cookware we all use will pressure you to buy. We are the type of people that like a good deal, but we also want quality. We decided to purchase the gourmet set, which will run you $2800 ($60/month, not including registry gift cards that your guests can buy for your cookware). We are currently using Teflon pans from Target- I spent around $100 and planned on getting new ones this year for the wedding. Already, in three years, I would have spent $200. This cookware is guaranteed for two generations! So, all in all, it is a great investment. As far as the vacation goes, I'll take any kind of discount, and they let you know the costs involved up front.

  • Brittany

My Fiancee and I just got back from this presentation and really had a great time. I really had the intention of buying nothing when we walked in and we still didn't but I'm hoping to go back when we have a baby and buy some. 3 grand is a little out of our price range right now. The guy was really funny and entertaining and not super pushy. We got our voucher for the vacation and everything else so I'm curious to see if it works. I would definately recommend other people to go and I'm going to tell my friends.

  • bd10

My fiance and I went to a seminar last night and I am really curious to know if this “vacation” is even legit….I guess $9.95 isn't to much of a risk to send in and find out but I'd hate to get to my vacation and be disappointed in the locale. Does anyone remember the name of the resort? Has anyone acutally gone through with the vacation? Is it really all inclusive?

  • http://www.facebook.com/alexkhc Alex Kasey-Houlette Clasen

LoL! Robert! You are so angry… I went to the presentation and if nothing else, had a BLAST and got some decent information. Almost every post following yours points out that the people that call you with the invitation to come out tell you everything up front. Yes, you have to pay the taxes and fees; yes, you have to fly yourself down there; and maybe you can get the same trip for $1200 on Expedia.. but does that include all your meals? Beverages? Alcohol? Child care? You left out a few things, you Angry Andy.
People who are spending “all their money” on a wedding should not be getting married anyway! What poor life planning! And that was even brought up in the presentation I attended. There's no reason *not* to go to the presentation and at least pick up the vouchers for stuff, get some free food, and have some fun. Just go in with a good idea of your finances and whether or not you should be spending on this kind of stuff. So no, don't be gullible. But do be open minded – you're not going to find a *warranty* on cookware that covers it for your lifetime and the lifetime of your children in a retail store..

  • Jerild

Alex Clasen and Brittany are being paid by National Healthstyles to throw you off. When you read posts like that, take them with a grain of salt. My fiance and I attended one of these presentations back in February, and they pressured and mislead us like nothing else. We thought about buying their expensive cookware, but it seemed too expensive, so they lowered the price a bit, and said that the first 5 people who make purchases will get $1000 off in their wedding registry. We went for it. We got our cookware, but never got our $1000 off, the free trips were a joke, and they refused to return the product. They purposely withheld information from us, and they spread lies around the internet to make it look like they’re a legitimate company.

Also, they pressured us into a high-interest loan. They failed to disclose the nature of the loan, only that we have to “sign the papers”. Avoid this at all costs.

they took my f-ing money and i called 4 times in the last two days just to check the status of my order and they cant be f-ing bothered to call me back. ohhh look at our BBB rating blah blah blah. companies PAY the BBB for their rating it doesnt mean shit about what kind of gutless company they are. so now im in debt for pots and pans i dont even know if im getting, because they wont even call me back. they took money out of my bank account and ran my credit. DO NOT give them a f-ing dime. if i could cancel my order i would, too bad they are pieces of shit who wouldnt call their dying mother back

*note, I am not the original poster of this. I saw it in the search results, but it had been removed when I looked at the reviews. I clicked on the ‘cached’ page, and saw this. Why had this post been removed? Hard to think that review sites might be paid or informed to remove negative reviews from their site. Review follows:

I am the Idiot for falling for this scam…My Fiance was called and told that she was selected to attend a free dinner and cookware presentation. We attended the presentation, and were sold on the efficiency and health benefits of the cookware. However at $2,760, I was still tentative. Then the presenter said he would give $1,000 extra to the first two who signed. I went back and sat for the financing and sales contract. I kept asking about the $1,000 but it was pushed off because the sales person was busy. In the end We found that it was 40% savings off a catalog purchase up to $1,000. Right then I should have cancelled. The 1.75%monthly APR on $3,000 should have also been a reason to walk away. We never received the information to put the cookware payments on our registry….And then we received the product which did not perform as explained in the presentation. But wait, there is no return policy….So I am stuck with pots and pans which are back in the original box after one use. The stacking, no oil or butter, medium to low cooking, all the efficiency benefits were not realistic and the cookware is just too heavy for some users. So I have paid $460 and still owe as much as I did the day I purchased it, have been treated poorly by customer service reps at NHF and the finance company. Both will call you 10 times a day and every family member if you don’t pay, but will not return calls otherwise, or make promises to placate you. While seeking a resolution, I fell a week behind in payments and NHF sent me an email outlining how my credit rating will be attacked. I was told that was a customary email for 30 day late or first month payees who miss. I was neither. Anyway, I will be paying for cookware that is still in the box for years to come.

I’m happy to see this blog post has helped a lot of people. I can tell you all that before I did this blog post, National Healthstyles Foundation didn’t seem to be doing any online damage control. It is obvious that they started doing that, and there are probably a bunch of comments on review sites out there that have been posted by employees of that company. There are even some comments on this blog that are by employees of the company. Just take in as many reviews as you can before making a decision. Considering how many complaints I’ve read I think it would be best to just stay away from them. I will say that I did end up making a purchase from them, but paid for it on the spot outright and didn’t do any sort of payment option. Screw that! That seems to be where most people are getting screwed over. Their pitchmen don’t give a shit what your financial situation is. They just want to get that commission off you.

  • Xamg2003x

Even if there is employees that are posting anything . what people fail to see is for every negative there twice as much positive. if anything, it looks as if that ROBERTS is actually following around national healthstyles and posting the same negativity on everywebsite you can write a review for …he might be paid by national healthstyles compition to throw dirt on the company’s name. he just might be an angry with himself for thinking otherwise than what was told . its only his fualt if he fell so deep and didnt read the fine print so to say. So my opinion is SEEING IS BELIEVEING whats 90 min of your time for a fun entertaining informational cookin presentation for you and you fiance. They gentleman that does the presentaion is a very entertaining and very informatable on everything .They do not pressure you at all. ITS YOUR DECSION! choose wisley and remeber while looking at reviews people look at all reviews and wiegh it out make your own descion and you see for yourself you will not be wasting your time. In fact you will be gaining information for your NEW LIVES TOGETHER!-ARG

  • Edkuzma

Jerild…I had the exact same experience. I actually had to reread your comments to make sure it wasn’t something I posted.  I was fooled and I am paying dearly for it.  When all is said and done i will pay over 3,800 for those pots and pans…UGHHH!!

  • jwls

They did say won to me!!! I have a voicemail to prove it! So I can tell you right now that something is shady.

  • Johnfat112

Just read all these comments and I just came from one of these presentations. I was very close to buying them but I was lucky that I was speaking with a rookie sales person in training because he was sincere and honest, he didn’t push it on us or anything. On the other hand, the main presenter was really pushy and seemed to use scare tactics to get me to buy the pans. Although some of his information is accurate I couldn’t help but notice the bogus articles he had when I got up close to examine. Also, my fiancé and I caught him smoking weed outside the hotel….scam, well maybe no…rip off and taking advantage of naive/young couples…yes! I would say go and get the gift. I got my wedding band for free and payed only $25 for shipping. Saved me $500 and I praise God for luring us away from this mistake!
